- Mersinger would officially assume the CEO role at the Blockchain Association on June 2
Summer Mersinger, one of the four commissioners at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission(CFTC), announced her resignation on Wednesday. She will be donning the role of a CEO Blockchain Association in her next stint. As per her statement, Mersinger will be stepping down from the CFTC commissioner role towards May end
The Blockchain Association announced on May 14 that Mersinger would officially assume the CEO role on June 2. Until then, an interim leader will oversee operations following the departure of outgoing chief Kristin Smith, who is heading to the Solana Policy Institute.
Mersinger’s decision to leave the CFTC before her term ends in 2028 clears a vacancy for President Donald Trump to fill, keeping with the rule that no more than three commissioners can belong to the same party. A Republican, she joined the commission in 2022 during the Biden administration.
Although her name had circulated in discussions about the CFTC chairmanship, former commissioner and crypto advocate Brian Quintenz ultimately bagged the role.
Mersinger had discussed the requirement for standard US crypto-related policies through notice and comment regulation at her public events. The latest development comes amid widespread discussions and debates on whether clarified digital asset regulation may emerge from expanded CFTC power under the Trump Administration.
